Mr White Mr Black
Director: Deepak Shivdasani
He has directed actors like Rekha in 'Madam X', Madhuri Dixit, Preity Zinta and Ajay Devgan in 'Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke', but couldn't use these actors to nurture his career as a director. If these stars worked in his film, it proves they had faith in him. But, Deepak's is a case of good narrator gone wrong while executing his ideas. Last time he made a sleazy film 'Julie' and with that his reputation went down. This time Deepak returns with a promise of making people laugh in 'Mr. White Mr. Black'. The film has been held up for many months for no takers. Now, with Arshad Warsi back in news for his comic timings in 'Krazzy 4', producers of the movie took it out with a thought to earn some fast cash, but the product proves lackluster. And, if the film doesn't have a good content, no matter whoever are the stars of your film, it will not be able to fool people around. Isn't it, Mr. Yash Chopra? 'Mr. White Mr. Black' is the story of two friends --- Gopi (Suniel Shetty) and Kishen (Arshad Warsi). Both meet in Goa. This is to recall that Gopi had left his native place (Hoshiarpur) to meet his friend for a special purpose. Kishen is a happy go lucky man in Goa and has his buddies to support him in his own 'pretty good' business. He has the alibi for his all wrong doing to support his kin Divya (Mahima Mehta). And, for this he creates a story of his twin brother named Hari. Hari is supposed to be a bad guy but little did Kishen realize that he would have to deal with a real bad guy in his life soon. What happens is that there is a heist in broad daylight and Kishen comes to know about the three girls and the diamonds that they have looted. Now Kishen is after these diamonds and lands up becoming a target of the don Laadla (Ashish Vidyarthi). Now, Gopi and Kishen (don't get confused with the character's names as Sunil did a film in the name of Gopi Kishen, Director Deepak Shivdasaani did come up with a good idea of making a film on a single thread story, and had he concentrated and worked more rigorously to develop sub-plots on the main story line only, he could have succeeded. However, he has faltered while trying to bring in one after other sub-stories to make it a feature film. He forgets the simple formula that viewers' interest has to be kept intact with each and every scene of the film. Take for instance the return of the landlord's scene; this is so badly conceived that people feel like leaving the theatre. It goes on and on, without anything actually happening on the screen. Sanjay Pawar and Nishikant Kamat have actually been of less help as screenplay writers for Deepak Shivdasani. The story department falters too and to a major extent. So, it is responsible for the failure of the idea execution. But, other technical departments also did not do any good job. Thomas Xavier's name appears on screen as cinematographer, but there is hardly any scene where he leaves impression of his shot taking, for which he has been famous. The music department is another major let down for the film. It's a pity that Deepak could not do it with four music directors and more than a singer! 'Mr. White Mr. Black' does have some entertaining moments, but the credit goes to individual performers. Arshad Warsi is the only actor in the film who makes your jawline expand for some moments but he has been repetitive, of late. His style of delivering dialogue is a hush-hush style that works better in Munna Bhai type of films. But, if he wears Circuit's character in each film, then time is running out too fast for him. Sunil Shetty is no more an eye catcher as hero. It is better for him as well as for his fans to understand it. Those who have grown up watching him in films like 'Balwan', 'Waqt Hamara Hai' and others, no more want to see him doing these kinds of roles. Maybe some day There is a huge list of supporting cast, but none other than Atul Kale as Babu leaves an impression. On the whole, 'Mr. White and Mr. Black' has a very weak chance at box office but giving the fact that other two films 'Pranali' and 'Anamika' are a no starter, 'MWMB' may get some footfall in the weekend. |
