We have brought up something about Deepika Padukone for you and hey, it’s not about her wedding. The news is that she is doing another spectacular role based on a true story. Previously she has done roles based on reality like Mastani in Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavati in Padmaavat and this time yet again, she is playing an equally strong character but not from the past.
In fact it is a character that the today’s women of the subcontinent and beyond, can relate to. She has signed a Meghna Gulzar movie, depicting an acid attack victim and survivor, Laxmi Agarwal.
The name of the film has not been finalized yet, but Deepika felt so strong about the concept behind it that she has decided to make this film her debut production. Talking about the production of the film herself, the diva said that she was completely moved by the story behind it and she did not only mean this about the ill violence but also the courage and strength that Laxmi kept all along.
This is what made her go beyond just acting in the movie. Whereas, when Meghna, the film maker was asked why she chose this theme for her next, she explained that despite the regulations imposed regarding sale and purchase of acids, and the acid attacks legislations, the treatment, compensation and rehabilitation is still a big problem.
The director said that she wanted to bring all this to the attention for the main cause of awareness at the least, and so she opted for Laxmi’s experience since it has a lot to do with the all the regulations regarding acid violence. Meghna Gulzar is the daughter of lyricist Gulzar and veteran actress Raakhee, and director to the recent Raazi and Calling Sehmat.
Furthermore, Deepika who is said to be the finest Bollywood actress of recent times, said that Meghna’s work has always had an impact on her and that she is more than just thrilled to be starting this journey.
Similarly, Meghna said that the kind of physical and emotional person she needed for this role, fits the best to Deepika. She was Meghna’s first choice and the two are grateful for doing this movie with one another.
The lead character Laxmi was just a 15 year old when the incident happened at a railway station, by a man close to her family, the story then revolves around her irreparable bruises and burns, and her parents in law who played a great part in the courtroom. This case has made a huge impact socially, and legally. This is going to be an eye-opener and a thrill to watch.
