Sonu Nigam expresses gratitude to Atta Ullah Eesa Khelwi for shaping his career


Sonu Nigam, one of the most popular playback singers in Bollywood, is often regarded as the Modern Rafi due to his exceptional versatility and vocal range. With a career spanning decades, he remains one of the most celebrated singers in India. Some of his most memorable songs include Kal Ho Naa Ho, Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin, Suraj Hua Maddham and Main Agar Kahoon.

In a recent interview with Faridoon Sheharyar, Sonu Nigam expressed his gratitude and affection for Atta Ullah Eesa Khelwi, recalling how his own career began by covering Atta Ullah’s iconic song Acha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyar Ka. He credited much of his success to the legendary Pakistani singer.

 

Speaking about the moment, Sonu Nigam shared:

 

“Without a doubt, he is a wonderful soul and holds a very special place in my life. When my journey had just begun with his songs, he personally called me and said, ‘Mr. Sonu, I am Atta Ullah Essa Khelwi from Pakistan, and I just want to tell you that you sang it really well.’ I was only nineteen at the time, and his kindness left a deep impact on me. I pray for all the great singers who have contributed to my growth, and I remain indebted to them. Acha Sila was the turning point of my career, a song that reached every household in India”.
